The advantage of this set is that the heavy duty hooks allow the sword to be detached without having to remove the entire belt. In period, it would have been considered very ill-mannered to take off one's entire belt when sitting down for supper. These buckles are suitable for belts with straps between 1/2" and 3/4". Recently we received this feedback from a local leather artisan for how he likes to assemble them, "the 3/4" wide belt looks nice in the wider parts of the belt loops and hardware, and the only places where it needs to be thinned to 1/2" is for the bars of the buckles and the scabbard loops".
