Experience the authentic craftsmanship of a 10th century Viking Turtle Brooch replica created in a late Oseberg style. This brooch has been cast in solid bronze using the lost-wax technique, resulting in a highly detailed design that is true to the original oval brooch found in an Isle of Lewis grave. With its warm reddish hue, this piece truly embodies the essence of pure bronze.
Reenactors will appreciate the use of historic casting techniques, but everyone can enjoy the highly detailed carving full of stylised animals and two human faces. The intricate details (some less than 1 mm) give this piece a lattice-like look that can only be achieved by a master mould maker.
The original that our replica is modelled after is kept at the National Museum of Scotland. They describe it as, "Double-shelled oval brooch of gilt bronze, ornamented with zoomorphic designs, from a Viking grave group from Kneep Head (Cnip Head), Valtos, Uig, Isle of Lewis, 900 - 1000." https://www.nms.ac.uk/search-our-collections/collection-search-results?entry=369353
